The concept of Tommy Steele's cooker originated from a group of like-minded individuals who would tell stories, down the pub, of famous people they had known. This provided hours of endless fun until one entrant (a man I used to work with) told us that his sister had bought Tommy Steele's cooker. This spawned a new pastime where the entrants had to tell of sagas where they had very tenuous links with well known people. The more tortuous the connection the better, the closer the proximity to Tommy Steele's fame the better and the more bizarre the happening the better.
